Student Work–Chris Basescu

Building the Pennsylvania Dressing Table was a rewarding project.  This piece built on skills I learned in Woodworking Essentials.  For me, the element that set the piece apart was shaping of the legs.  During class, Lonnie helped me understand the importance of patience and attention to detail.  The curves, proportions and symmetry of the legs are key to the overall design.  When I returned home, I was able to work through the incorporation of the knee blocks, and their overall blending into the leg assembly.  The use of hand tools to pare and shape the various components brought a special measure of satisfaction.  I am proud of the result, and display the dressing table prominently in our home.
