| Size: | Limited to six students | |

This striking block front chest is based upon a handful of rare antique examples that feature narrow proportions and a generous top overhang. Also, as you can see in the photo, the drawers graduate quickly which results in vertical blocking on the lowest drawer. These important design details result in a chest that emphasizes the vertical instead of the horizontal. The dynamic proportions create a beautiful and rare chest of drawers.
This is a challenging master level class which involves a lot of precise detailed work with hand tools. During class, I'll cover all the important details of construction including the mitered bead on the case which surround the drawers, the giant dovetail which joins the base molding to the case, the sliding dovetail which joins the top to the sides, and the precise methods for ensuring perfect alignment of the blocking on the top, drawers dividers, base molding, and feet.
This class requires that you cut the dovetails on the case sides before class.
Prerequisite: Woodworking Essentials. The Massachusetts block front chest is a very challenging project that requires considerable handtool skills. We want you to be prepared for this advanced course so that you will gain the most from your experience.
Note: The shop is air conditioned for your comfort!
Class size is limited to six students so that you'll receive personal attention and instruction.
