Build a Tall Case Clock (Grandfather Clock)

Gooseneck-top-clockflat-top-hood-clock

Instructor: Lonnie Bird

Dates:              September 26 - October 1, 2011  (6 full days of hands-on instruction)

Tuition:         $1175

Size:                  Limited to nine participants

If you've always wanted to attend the tall clock class but couldn't attend a two-week long class then here's your chance—a one week tall clock class! Tall clocks are essentially three separate pieces of casework: the base, the waist, and the hood. While the construction of the waist and the base is quite simple, the hood construction is very complex.

In this six-day class we'll build the hood and you can complete the clock at home. We'll provide the drawings for the waist and the base as well as assistance that you'll need to assemble the clock. You can choose between the high-style gooseneck clock or the simple, yet elegant flat top.

Because of time limitations, the turnings and carvings will not be a part of the class. You may want to consider taking the Turning and/or Carving Classes. The turnings and carvings for the clock hood will be easier if you've built your skill in these areas.

Prerequisite: Woodworking Essentials. The clock is a very challenging project that requires considerable handtool skills. We want you to be prepared for this advanced course so that you will gain the most from your experience. Please read the Prerequisite page for details on our policy.

Class size is limited to nine students so that you'll receive personal attention and instruction.
